Taking the measure of the HP color LaserJet 1500l printer using Color LaserJet 1500L cartridges will quickly reveal that one is looking at a very nice and low priced laser printer that could be an excellent choice for almost any business that will need a nice printer but at a price that won’t break the bank. This particular model comes with a very nice print speed and quality that matches that speed. It’s also designed for true workgroup networks and comes with excellent connectivity.
As far as what Hewlett-Packard says the print speed is, it will print out nicely enough in monochrome to attract the attention of most any small business person looking for a low-cost, yet relatively quick printer from Hewlett-Packard. At 16 pages of print per minute, in monochrome, that’s more than enough to overcome the fact that it only prints at four pages per minute in color. It would seem that black and white is the intended use.
The 1500l takes advantage of standard USB connection capabilities and there is no other option available as far as connectivity. It’s actually not a big deal, but keep in mind that there is no USB cable supplied with the 1500l. So, make sure that one is purchased prior to leaving the store. It’s also extremely easy to connect by just about anybody, so no need to hire an IT specialist to do so.
The quality of the printed page that will emerge from the 1500l is fairly bread-and-butter for Hewlett-Packard, meaning that 600 dots per inch is what will be delivered. As far as most business needs, this is more than acceptable and the quality of the page will be uniformly nice across the board. HP includes one of its image enhancement technology programs to ensure that it stays that way no matter the print job using the HP laser toners.
Random access memory included by Hewlett-Packard for this printer is also typical for the segment, at 16 MB. That can’t be increased, but it’s no big deal as well. Just take stock of the print load that this workgroup printer will be responsible for handling and everything should go fine. It is all controlled by a 150 MHz processor unit that keeps everything organized and under control.
The 1500l is also able to do its print jobs on more than a few different media types, including labels, transparencies and envelopes as well as plain paper. It holds around 125 sheets within its included auto load input tray. Though this might seem low, it’s a fair trade-off considering that this network laser printer is priced so reasonably.
Durability in the 1500l is also nice enough, with a maximum monthly duty cycle at a nice 30,000 pages. HP recommends between 1,000 and 3,000 pages per month, though, which is about par for the course for a printer of this type and price. Keep in mind that this is a laser jet printer, meaning that it takes four printer cartridges, 1 each of black, yellow, cyan and magenta. It also can run off of Windows and Mac OS operating systems.
All in all, there seems to be much to like about the HP Color LaserJet 1500l printer. It certainly will work well enough for most small business workgroups that don’t need a printer with the capability to handle huge print files and it can also be found for less than $150 from retail online stores, which is actually an exceptional price for a real network printer. It also prints at about 16 pages per minute, though color is only at four pages per minute. When you are in need of compatible toners, search for HP compatible toners online. Just make sure to purchase HP Color LaserJet 1500L replacement toner so it will match your printer.
