Why Americans Are Choosing To Have Something Fixed Instead of Buying New Currently

Many Americans were happy to say goodbye to the year 2009 and look forward to a better one economically and financially in the year 2010. With the difficulties of losing jobs, receiving lower pay, and problems paying the bills during this recession, a lot of people have had to learn how to live more frugally and differently than they had been living before the economy took a turn for the worse. One way they have decided to save money is by using things longer and having certain items repaired like their Long Island computer from a Long Island computer repair shop rather than buying a new item when it breaks. This article will look into some of the things Americans are having repaired in this tough economy.

Some of the things that people are choosing to get fixed are the large items that usually they would have had repaired first, rather than purchasing new just like prior to the downfall of the economy. This would include a lot of high priced appliances such as a furnace or home air conditioner, refrigerator or clothing washer and dryer. Because these items cost thousands of dollars, typically to purchase new, a lot of people are willing to pay the service fee to have it fixed to avoid having to put down all of the money it would cost to replace it.

Another category where people are selecting to have things repaired are with electronics. There are so many high tech electronics out there today and many of them have multiple features, that they are certain to have some issues at some point. Because a lot of people are not technically savvy to figure out when something does not work correctly, they need to find the assistance of a person who handles fixing those kind of things. For example, you may have a costly touch screen laptop computer that out of the blue goes blank. Rather than spending a couple of thousand dollars to buy a new one, many people now find a computer repair person to fix it.

Because of the economy, even less expensive electronics are finding themselves at repair shops whereas as the younger generation in the past would have just thrown it out when it broke and got the newer, improved electronic. Things like I-pods and video game components are now being brought to shops that know how to fix them for a much smaller fee than it would have been to replace it. Consignment stores for small electronics are also experiencing a rising business as are the people that repair these smaller items.

The car industry has also seen a shift with people and their cars. Americans are keeping their cars longer and maintaining them and fixing them rather than purchasing the newest vehicle on the lot. This has damaging the car companies horribly but has increased business for automotive shops that do repairs and maintenance of automobiles. They are also keeping itmes on their cars longer too, like tires and having them rotated rather than buying new ones.
